HQ FLOOR CARE GUIDE · SOUTH FLORIDA
Why do hardwood floors look cloudy after mopping?
A hazy wood floor needs the right diagnosis before another product is applied. Surface residue and a worn or damaged finish can look similar in a photograph. This guide helps you prepare a useful assessment request and understand the different services HQ may recommend.

Is the cloudy appearance sitting on the finish or within it?
A cloudy appearance alone does not identify the cause. A surface film may call for cleaning or a separate preparation process, while changes in the finish or wood need a different evaluation. Note when the appearance began, where it occurs and which products were used. Avoid choosing a coating from appearance alone.

Write down what happened before the floor changed
Was the haze present before cleaning, or did it appear after a new product or routine? Record the product names, how they were used and whether a polish or refresher has ever been applied. Include any known spill or leak history. This is useful assessment information, not a home test that proves the cause.

Keep routine care matched to the existing finish
The National Wood Flooring Association recommends removing loose dirt with a broom, dust mop or vacuum on its bare-floor setting and selecting a cleaner intended for the floor’s finish. It advises against wet mops and steam mops. Check your flooring manufacturer’s instructions before changing products or methods.

What professional cleaning can—and cannot—address
HQ evaluates whether soil or surface residue on a suitable finished floor can be addressed through professional cleaning. Bona PowerScrubber is part of HQ’s cleaning work where appropriate for the surface. Cleaning does not replace missing finish, repair damaged boards or remove scratches within the wood. Persistent haze may need a different scope.

Why polish and a professional recoat are different decisions
Tell HQ about any product sold as a polish, restorer, refresher or shine treatment. Its identity and use history matter when evaluating the surface. A professional maintenance recoat adds a compatible finish layer after the required preparation and assessment. Applying another product is not a substitute for establishing what is already on the floor.

Engineered wood does not automatically mean sanding
For cleaning, the existing surface and its care requirements guide the decision. If deeper restoration is being considered, engineered construction and the usable wear layer require a separate evaluation. Photos can start the conversation, but they do not establish sanding eligibility or whether a new finish will adhere.

When a cleaning quote needs a broader assessment
Report peeling areas, exposed wood, loose or raised boards and known water events with your request. HQ may need to evaluate repair, preparation or a moisture-related concern before recommending surface work. Describe what you see without assuming that a cleaner, coating or sanding will resolve it.

Prepare a useful request for your Florida property
Send one room-wide photo, close-ups of the affected sections and a photo of the maintenance-product labels if available. Add your city and ZIP code, approximate floor area and whether the floor is solid wood, engineered wood or another material. Include furniture and building-access requirements so HQ can review both the floor and the practical scope.
Documented HQ cleaning work
Our Roselle Park, New Jersey photographs show Bona PowerScrubber cleaning on a hardwood floor. They document that cleaning job; they do not establish the cause of haze on your floor or show a Florida project.

Does cloudiness prove that cleaner residue is the problem?
No. It is a symptom to evaluate alongside the maintenance history and floor condition. Photos help describe the appearance but cannot confirm every cause.
Should I request cleaning, recoating or refinishing?
Describe the problem first. HQ can assess whether cleaning is suitable, whether a maintenance coat is compatible or whether deeper restoration or repairs deserve review.
Can this guide be used for LVP or LVT?
This guide concerns wood floors. A wood-look surface may be vinyl, so confirm the material and follow its own care instructions. Use HQ’s Florida vinyl-cleaning service information for that assessment.
Can I arrange the assessment through a property manager?
Include the person coordinating access, permitted work hours and any building requirements in the request. HQ confirms the next step and schedule separately.
