There is no machine that sands a staircase the way a floor gets sanded. Treads, risers, nosings, stringers, and balusters are detail work by hand, which is why stair pricing does not follow floor pricing and why stairs are quoted after they are seen.

A staircase that does not match the floor it meets is the first thing a visitor notices. HQ coordinates color and sheen across the transition, and samples on the actual treads rather than trusting that a floor sample will read the same on a vertical surface.

Stairs take more concentrated traffic than any floor in the home, on a surface that is also a safety consideration. HQ selects a finish system for that reality, from the Bona waterborne range, and discusses sheen with slip in mind rather than only appearance.

Handrails and balusters carry hand oils and years of contact, and they need different preparation than a tread does. HQ addresses them as part of the same project so the staircase reads as one piece of work when it is finished.
