Bona systems for a carefully prepared installation

HQ Hardwood Floors is a Bona Certified Craftsman. For suitable glue-down installations, Bona QUANTUM FLOW is a GREENGUARD Gold-certified adhesive option. The wood construction, substrate, moisture measurements and manufacturer requirements determine the adhesive and preparation system. Other installations require a different fastening method; an adhesive is not automatically part of every project.

The subfloor decides the method

Before a method is chosen, HQ looks at what is under the floor. A concrete slab, a plywood subfloor, or both in the same house each call for a different approach — and where two substrates meet in one room, they have to be brought to a single plane first. That leveling work is not optional, and skipping it is why installed floors telegraph every dip a year later.

Moisture is tested, not assumed

Wood and subfloor are tested separately, because they can disagree. New Jersey humidity swings hard between seasons, and a floor installed over a subfloor that is still giving up moisture will move after the crew leaves. A moisture barrier does not replace testing — it manages a condition you have already measured.

Acclimation before installation

Flooring is delivered and allowed to come to terms with the room it will live in before a single board is fastened. How long that takes depends on the material, the season, and the conditions in the house. HQ tells you the schedule up front rather than compressing it to hit a date.

Species, grade, width, and construction all change how a floor behaves and what it costs. HQ installs solid and engineered hardwood, and pattern work such as herringbone, where layout planning and border detail matter as much as the fastening. What affects hardwood floor installation cost in New Jersey?

The flooring product, room layout, removal of the old floor, subfloor preparation, transitions, and installation method all affect the quote. Stairs, borders, and patterns add separate work. Can hardwood flooring be installed over concrete?

Some flooring products and installation systems are suitable for concrete, but the slab must be evaluated first. Moisture testing, surface preparation, flatness, and the flooring and adhesive manufacturers’ requirements determine the approach. HQ’s Bound Brook project involved both concrete and plywood; that project’s system is not a specification for every home.

How long does hardwood flooring need to acclimate?

There is no single waiting period for every product. Follow the selected flooring manufacturer’s instructions and evaluate the wood, subfloor, and normal indoor conditions before installation. Simply leaving boxes in a room for a set number of days does not establish readiness. Product selection and site conditions should inform delivery and installation scheduling.

Can new hardwood match an existing floor in the next room?

The match depends on species, board width, thickness, grain, age, and finish. Share photos of both rooms and any spare boards or product labels. Discuss whether a transition is acceptable or the floors should connect continuously. Color samples on the actual wood help evaluate the result; an exact match should not be assumed.
